| Business Development Manager, Large National Insurance Company
Downtown Vancouver offices.
Position Overview:
The successful candidate will be expected to drive profitable growth by maximizing Net Premium Written (NPW) and profit of Commercial and Personal Insurance for the company, and GroupDynamix in an assigned territory through sales and broker relationship management. This is a unique territory consisting primarily of National, Consolidator and Mainstreet brokers.

What you will achieve in this role: (job responsibilities)
" Achieve NPW and product/segment mix targets by selling products to a designated business customer segment. NPW targets include new business, organic growth and retention.
" Deliver on the territory's planned loss ratio by segment and product mix
" Operate within the territory budget
" Complete annual business plan for designated brokers
" Work with the Regional VP to ensure support from Operations and Head Office resources to deliver the growth plan
" Achieve NPW and profitability by:
o Identifying profitable business and aggressively selling our products (and service) to brokers. This includes creating the "pitch" for broker meetings that fits with the broker's communication style.
o Developing solid, long-term relationships with brokers (Principals and CSR's). This includes extensive ongoing contact in person.
o Assessing the targeted quality of business coming in and ensuring mid market effective use of the triage process. Refocusing efforts if off track.
o Developing business cases for new deals. Seeking guidance from Regional VP as appropriate.
o Acting within authority limits with respect to underwriting and governance and engaging the Operations team when appropriate.
o Work in collaboration with Regional VP & Operations team to ensure fulfilment of action plans pertaining to the brokers, through broker management.
o Working closely with the Operations team to ensure the business gets effectively processed and written.
" Execute on delivery of new products to marketplace through a combination of sales calls and broker events
" Act as a resource person for brokers, underwriters and management with respect to sales and marketing issues.
" Ensure that brokers understand our risk appetite, our targeted segment/product mix and our technology
" Effective delivery and execution of our value proposition - Relationship, Service and Focus in the market place
" Provide feedback to Head Office Marketing team and Operations teams on broker issues and needs
" Provide competitive intelligence to Regional VP
" Work with the Sales Logistics team to apply book performance information to analyze territory and individual brokerages
" Assess impact of initiatives on brokers. This includes changes in strategy and organization structure.
What you need to know and what experience you need to have for this role:
" Solid track record of 7-10 years insurance sales experience
" Relentless drive to profitably grow the business
" Extensive knowledge of commercial & personal insurance products and targeted segments an asset
" Underwriting knowledge would be an asset, in particular understanding how the underwriting team operates
" Extensive knowledge of competitor policies, products, services and/or technology
" Superb sales skills and strong interpersonal skills
" Superb customer relationship skills; high degree of credibility with brokers
" Strong negotiation skills with brokers face to face and via telephone
" Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with our broker partners
" Ability to successfully work with Regional Operations team and Corporate functions. This requires skill in: work planning and organization, influencing, negotiating, relationship management, communication (oral and written), solutions mindset and a desire to be out on the road meeting brokers
" Assertive "hunter" mentality
" Superb presentation skills
What education is best for this role:
" University degree preferred, CIP designation or working towards, previous commercial insurance experience.
